“We are at the end of an age! Here we are; perhaps the last island of beauty… in the world,” as Uncle Monty presciently proclaims in the film Withnail and I. Alas! Monty is right. Yet, we are not to dwell on the fads of current events. Instead, we wish to build our own island of beauty, a place of dignified idleness dedicated to study and learning.

“Otium Cum Dignitate” is a principle we inherit from the master of decorum, Cicero. His was a thinking dedicated to uphold the order of the Republic at a time of tremendous upheaval. For Cicero otium was time one spent to cultivate oneself with the study of philosophy and the sciences.

This is a place for the study for the sake of learning and understanding.
